The latest report of the Ministry of Agriculture ‘Cantina Italia’, revealed there are 56 million hectoliters of wine (57.5 in 2018), 6.1 million hectoliters of musts (6.9) and over 300.000 (490.000) hectoliters of new wine still in fermentation in the Italian cellars.
The report shows that the DOC and DOCG wines are the main wine stock part (51.3%), followed by IGT wines (26.6%), table wines (20.7%) and varietal wines (1.4%).
The main DOC and DOCG wine stocks are: Prosecco Doc (3.8 million hectoliters, 8.9% of the total stocks), Sicilia Doc (1.5 million hectoliters, 3.5%) Pinot Grigio delle Venezie Doc (1.5 million hectoliters, 3.5%); Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Doc (1.4 million hectoliters, 3.4%); Chianti Doc (1.3 million hectoliters, 3.2%); Chianti Classico Docg (850.000 hectoliters, 2%); Prosecco Conegliano e Valdobbiadene Docg (845.000 hectoliters, 1.9%); Valpolicella Ripasso Docg (560.000 hectoliters, 1.3%); Trentino Doc (550.000 hectoliters, 1.3%) and Franciacorta (550.000 hectoliters, 1.3%).
