The coronavirus forces the national and international press to experience Sicily En Primeur 2020 through a webinar during which Consorzio Sicilia presented the data on Sicilian wine.
According to Antonio Rallo and Alessio Planeta’s statement, Sicily now boasts the largest organic vineyard in Italy (30,660 hectares), equal to 29% of the regional total, just over 106 thousand hectares.
“Last year 95 million bottles were produced within the Appellation area, 19% more than in 2018. We are also comforted by the reduced impact of Covid-19 on our wines, which marked an average drop in sales of 11%, against a national trend that settles at 35/40%” declares Antonio Rallo, Consorzio Sicilia’s President.
Alessio Planeta, Assovini Sicilia’s President, points the way to go “Our challenge will be to communicate the values and the sustainability of Sicilian wine. Our island has a propensity for sustainability like no other territory: It’s time to put it at the center of the village“.
